Dr. Sara Childers

Dr. Childers received her doctorate in Social and Cultural Foundations in Education from The School of Educational Policy and Leadership at Ohio State. After earning her degree, she served as assistant professor of Qualitative Inquiry in the College of Education at the University of Alabama. Along with teaching and research, she maintained a connection to diversity and inclusion issues, serving on the Parent Student Advisory Board and also as a mentor for the Tide Together program which provided mentorship for underrepresented students. Actively involved in the community, Childers worked directly with one of the Tuscaloosa public schools destroyed in the tornado of 2011 to gather resources and recover from the storm.

Her research agenda has focused on the intersections between policy, race, and gender, with specific attention to the way policy is practiced on-the-ground and its implications for equity and excellence. Her book, Urban Educational Identity: Seeing Students on Their Own Terms will be published in the fall of 2016.

Throughout her career Dr. Chllders has remained a strong advocate for women. In fact, she was one of the first people hired when The Women's Place opened its doors in 2000, and she helped lay the foundation for the office. She is excited to be actively engaged again with efforts to continue to expand opportunities for women and build an inclusive climate of excellence at Ohio State.
