Congratulations to 2016 HERS Institute Scholarship Recipients

Lorri Fowler, Melissa Jungers and Linda Montaño have been selected to attend the 2016 Higher Education Resource Services (HERS) Summer Institutes. The HERS Summer Institutes provide an intensive 12-day curriculum that prepares women faculty and administrators for institutional leadership roles. Each year, several Ohio State faculty and staff women are selected to attend and receive scholarships for the institute.

Lori Fowler

Lorri A. Fowler is the executive director of the Dorothy M. Davis Heart and Lung Research Institute (DHLRI), administrator for the Department of Physiology and Cell Biology (PCB), administrator for the Institute for Behavioral Medicine Research (IBMR), and administrative director for the Heart and Vascular Center.

She is a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE), American College of Medical Practice Executives (ACMPE)/Medical Group Management Association (MGMA), and National Council of University Research Administrators (NCURA). Fowler is a past (2003-2007) board member of Ohio State's Association of Staff and Faculty Women (ASFW), and she completed The Women’s Place 12-month Staff Leadership Series in 2007.

She holds a bachelor’s degree from Franklin University and an MBA from Otterbein University. In addition, she is a Fellow of the American College of Medical Practice Executives (AMCPE) and holds her Lean Six Sigma Green Belt Certification in Operational Excellence from the Medical Group Management Association (MGMA).

Melissa Jungers

Dr. Melissa Jungers received her PhD in Cognitive/Experimental Psychology from The Ohio State University in 2003 and joined the faculty at Ohio State Newark the same year. Her research interests include memory for complex auditory sequences, perception and production systems, and parallels in language and music.

Jungers received the university’s Alumni Award for Distinguished Teaching in 2011 and the Mentoring of Undergraduate Research Award from the Newark campus in 2015. She completed the President and Provost’s Leadership Institute in 2014. She is in her second year as an associate dean at the Newark campus after serving for two years as assistant dean.

Linda Montaño

Linda Montaño is the senior director of Business Operations and Administration for the Office of International Affairs at Ohio State. In this role she oversees the finance, HR, and IT functions that support international students and scholars, education abroad, multiple interdisciplinary centers, and global gateway offices. Prior to coming to Ohio State, Montaño worked in Children’s Protective Services in Austin, Texas, where she served in multiple departments as well as on a statewide task force to help children in the state’s care.

Montaño earned her BA in Business Administration from Hope College in Holland, Michigan and her MA in Public Policy and Management from the John Glenn College of Public Affairs at Ohio State University. She served as a founding member of the Glenn College Alumni Society Board, including one term as Secretary and multiple years of service on the Philanthropy Committee and Leadership Forum Planning Committee. On days when Montaño needs inspiration, she watches Madeleine Albright tell the story of how she became Secretary of State and she hopes her legacy will also include joy in service and saying “yes” to opportunities to make a difference.
