The Faculty Women of Color in the Academy (FWCA) National Conference is a unique educational and professional development conference that provides women faculty, university administrators, post-doctoral and graduate students, and undergraduates with a forum to network, engage and learn with peers from around the country.

The Women’s Place will be sponsoring women of color faculty and postdoctoral fellows from all campuses to attend the conference. Apply for sponsorship by Friday, March 5.

The two-day conference motivates and inspires participants to meet their professional goals. Through this high-quality, participatory, inclusive and interactive event FWCA participants:

  • Gain lessons, ideas, tools, and strategies to bring back to their institutions, organizations, and communities.
  • Make new contacts and build lasting relationships.
  • Are inspired, motivated, energized, and empowered.

The two-day conference features prominent women of color scholars as keynote speakers, panelists, performers, and workshop facilitators. This year's keynote speakers are Dr. Bettina L. Love and Dr. France Córdova.

Dr. Loveis an award-winning author and associate professor of Educational Theory & Practice at the University of Georgia. She is one of the field’s most esteemed educational researchers in the areas of how anti-blackness operates in schools, Hip Hop education, and urban education.

Dr. Córdova has served as a leader in science, higher education, and government. From 1993 to 1996, she was NASA's chief scientist; at the time, she was the youngest person to hold the position and the first woman to do so. Some of her most recent roles include president of Purdue University and leader of the NSF, appointed by President Obama.

The conference also offers the 2021 Faculty Women of Color in the Academy Pre-Conference Writing Retreat on April 9, 2021.
